Development & Maintenance
I work with both new and established gardens over the longer term, including gardens I have designed myself and those created by other designers. Through thoughtful, targeted development and progressive maintenance, I refine planting, respond to the way a garden evolves and help it reach its full potential.
A garden never stands still.
Development
Not every garden needs to be redesigned from scratch. Often the structure is already in place but the planting has become tired, areas no longer work as they should, or the garden simply needs fresh direction.
Development days are a practical hands-on way of moving a garden forward. I work with what is already there - editing and reshaping planting, moving and dividing plants, improving soil quality and responding to the way the garden develops over time.
The aim is not to impose a new garden but to bring out the best in the one you already have.
Progressive Maintenance
Long-term stewardship of a garden allows me to improve its productivity and impact over the seasons. It’s not just about keeping a garden tidy, through regular interventions I make considered adjustments as planting matures, always with an eye on the overall design and cohesion of the planted space.
Professional pruning and tying in, dividing and moving plant stock, seasonal editing, managing self-seeding and adding new seasonal and long-term planting are all key to successfully improving a garden.
The aim is a garden that becomes better with age.
